What is BEING Supported?

BEING Supported – Mental Health Peer Support Line is a warm line service staffed by trained and experienced Peer Support Specialists all with their own lived experience of mental health issues. If you are feeling isolated, lonely, depressed and/or anxious or simply want someone to talk to, we are here to listen with empathy and without judgement.

What can I expect from a call?

From the moment you call our BEING Supported warmline, you will be greeted by one of our friendly Peer Support Specialists who will provide support, information or referrals in an empathic and non-judgemental way. Our Peer Support Specialists work within the values of peer support work including:

Equality and mutuality
Every caller to BEING Supported is treated equally. Peer Support Specialists connect through mutuality and safely share our own lived experiences to develop a connection throughout your call.

Empathy
We listen deeply, providing a calm, safe, nonjudgmental space for you to discuss whatever may be on your mind or whatever emotions you may be experiencing. We have been there too.

Honesty and trust
We speak from our heart to your heart. Through our mutual trust we hold space and provide emotional support without fixing or advising you

Empowerment
We support you by discovering problem-solving strategies together that support and encourage you to work out ways towards your own self-determination

Hope
We believe that recovery from mental health issues is possible for everyone, and people are entitled to lead contributing lives in the communities they choose.

Reassurance
We offer reassurance that you are not alone and do not have to go through life alone.

Who can call the BEING Supported Warmline?

BEING Supported is funded to provide support to people living anywhere across NSW, however if you are interstate and needing someone to chat with please let our friendly Peer Support Staff know and we will assist to support you via referral to services in your state. 

Who is on the other end of the phone at BEING Supported?

Each Peer Support Specialist you connect with brings a unique expertise to their role through their own lived experience with mental health issues, system access or trauma history. We are trained to provide information and referral pathways that you may find helpful.

We offer reassurance that you are not alone and do not have to go through life alone. 

How can the BEING Supported Warmline assist you?

This warmline provides support when you need it. We are here to listen, support, and provide referrals if needed. You may want a friendly person to chat with, an ear to listen, or assistance and support with navigating mental health services and systems. 

One of our friendly Peer Support Specialists will be waiting to speak with you either via phone or online (coming soon).

BEING Supported  staff are here to talk about any matters that may be currently affecting you, particularly during this time of added stress and anxiety related to COVID-19, and are also here if you simply need to chat. We can also provide referral pathways if you need.
